With over 45,000 volumes including works of fiction, non-fiction, children's and youth books, and texts dedicated to local history, the library also has a digital library with over 500,000 units constantly growing. The Liguria WiFi regional service guarantees free access to the network, while fixed stations allow internet access and also the possibility to print your documents.
It is possible to read and consult freely and without any limitations books, periodicals, and newspapers displayed on open shelves. To access the home loan service, it is necessary to register at the Library: non-residents must pay a refundable deposit of € 10 at any time. For those under 14 years old, registration must be confirmed by a parent or legal guardian.
For fans of adventures, thrillers, historical novels, and children's stories, the library offers a rich online catalog where you can choose your preferred e-book. Just a few clicks are enough to download it for free and read it comfortably in your hotel room or on the beach, from a tablet or PC.

Bibliographic research
For bibliographic research and the localization of materials, it is possible to request the support of library assistants at the reception point, or access the library catalog remotely or via intranet from the workstations available to users. The interlibrary loan service illbiblioteca@comune.alassio.sv.it also allows you to conduct research and obtain documents from other libraries.
Within the Media Library of the Library by the Sea, it is possible to consult audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, e-books, and also listen to theme music preloaded onto MP3 players to be used while moving freely within the premises. If you have suitable players at home, most of the material is subject to home loan. According to the copyright protection regulations, new releases are excluded from lending until 18 months have passed since their distribution date.
The modern auditorium “Roberto Baldassarre”, located on the fourth floor of the building, with its 96 seats hosts cultural initiatives and events organized and promoted by the Alassio library throughout the year. Book presentations and film festivals alternate with conferences and conventions. From June to September, don't miss Ligyes Alassio - Genoa Culture Fest, with a rich program of live events and initiatives, including two prestigious cultural awards.
The literary award “An Author for Europe” is the culmination of a series of cultural promotion initiatives, the Meetings with the Author, which since 1974 have seen the major Italian writers present their works. After 20 years, in 1994, the event named “Alassio 100 books - 20 Years of Meetings with the Author”, made up of two very dense cycles of meetings and debates, celebrated this important milestone and suggested the idea of a more dynamic framework with a European outlook that would subject our narrative to scrutiny by a jury of intellectuals engaged in cultural information or teaching at major universities in Europe. The winner of the 2025 edition is Paolo Malaguti with the novel "Fumana".
The “Alassio for Cultural Information” award is intended for a figure in the information world who has distinguished themselves for the innovativeness of content and language in the work of disseminating culture, particularly of books and reading. In past editions, it has been awarded to prominent figures in the Italian cultural scene such as Massimo Gramellini, Piero Angela, and Mario Tozzi. The winner of the 2025 edition is Aldo Cazzullo, journalist and historic columnist of Corriere della Sera, author of successful books and an authoritative voice in the Italian cultural landscape.
