With over 45,000 volumes, including works of fiction, non-fiction, children’s and young adult books, and texts dedicated to local history, the facility also has a digital library with over 500,000 units constantly growing. The Liguria WiFi regional service guarantees free access to the network, while fixed stations allow internet access and also printing your documents.
You can freely read and consult books, magazines, and newspapers available on open shelves without any limitations. To access the home loan service, you must register at the Library: non-residents must pay a refundable deposit of €10 at any time. For minors under 14 years old, registration must be confirmed by a parent or legal guardian.
For adventure lovers, mystery novels, historical novels, and children’s stories, the library offers a rich online catalog where you can choose your preferred e-book. Just a few clicks are needed to download it for free and read it comfortably in your hotel or at the beach, from a tablet or PC.
The Alassio Library offers you a modern coworking space with customizable workstations, fiber connection, computers, printers, a refreshment area, and immersive environments for working, stimulating productivity and creativity. Access is free or by reservation, with the possibility of booking meeting rooms for private meetings. Ideal for those looking for a functional and technological environment in the heart of Alassio.

For bibliographic research and locating materials, you can request support from the library assistants at the reception desk, or access the library's catalog remotely or intranet from the workstations available to users. The interlibrary loan service at illbiblioteca@comune.alassio.sv.it also allows you to conduct searches and obtain documents from other libraries.
Within the Media Library of the Library by the Sea, you can consult audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, e-books, and even listen to thematic music preloaded on MP3 players for use while moving freely within the premises. If you have the appropriate readers at home, much of the material is available for home loan. According to copyright protection regulations, new materials are excluded from lending for 18 months from the release date.
The modern auditorium “Roberto Baldassarre,” located on the fourth floor of the building, with its 96 seats hosts cultural initiatives and events organized and promoted by the Alassio library throughout the year. Book presentations and film reviews alternate with conferences and conventions. The literary award “An Author for Europe” is the culmination of a series of cultural promotion initiatives, the Meetings with Authors that since 1974 have brought together the leading Italian writers to present their works. Twenty years later, in 1994, the event called “Alassio 100 books – 20 Years of Meetings with Authors”, structured into two dense cycles of meetings and debates, celebrated this important achievement and at the same time suggested the idea of a more dynamic framework with a European scope that subjected our narrative to the scrutiny of a jury of intellectuals engaged in cultural information or teaching at major universities in Europe. The winner of the 2026 edition is Dario Ferrari with the novel "The Family Idiot".

The award “Alassio for cultural information” is designated for a figure in the world of information who has distinguished themselves for innovation in content and language in the work of spreading culture, particularly around books and reading. In past editions, it has been awarded to notable figures in the Italian cultural scene such as Massimo Gramellini, Piero Angela, and Mario Tozzi. The winner of the 2026 edition is Paolo Mieli, an authoritative journalist, historian, and protagonist of the Italian cultural debate.
